The floor drain is an important interface connecting the drainage pipe system with the indoor floor and serves as a crucial component of the drainage system in a residence.

The seemingly insignificant floor drain, if not properly selected, can lead to problems such as unpleasant odors and clogging. What kind of material and style of floor drain have you installed in your home? What should be noted when choosing and installing?

The special feature of floor drains: They can drain surface water, water stains, solid substances, fibers, hair, and easily accumulated substances, etc.

The main functions of floor drains: preventing odors, clogging, cockroaches, viruses, backflow and drying out (mainly referring to water-sealed floor drains)

The quality of a floor drain is mainly evaluated from four aspects: drainage speed, anti-odor effect, ease of cleaning, and durability without mechanical principles.

Traditional water-sealed floor drain

(1) Advantages: Inexpensive, simple structure, and low installation height requirements

(2) Disadvantages: Slow drainage, prone to accumulation of dirt that is difficult to clean, mediocre deodorization effect, insufficient water seal height, mostly only 10-20mm, prone to drying and unable to provide long-lasting deodorization.

2. Spring floor drains and flip floor drains

Advantages

There are many options for panel styles and designs.

(2) Disadvantages

Self-sealing floor drains are not odor-proof, prone to clogging and have a short lifespan. Spring floor drains and flip floor drains open when water comes and close when there is no water by taking advantage of gravity.

3. U-shaped floor drain

The principle is very simple, which is the principle of the water storage bend liquid seal. However, the drawback is also obvious. If it is not used for a long time, the water will evaporate and the odor will not be separated. Therefore, it can only be installed in the shower area. Also, if a good odor isolation effect is to be achieved, the core must be made longer so that the evaporation resistance time can be longer. However, if the drain pipe is left too shallow, it is easy to get stuck, which is not conducive to construction.

4. T-shaped floor drain

Advantages: The inner wall of the T-shaped structure is smooth and not prone to clogging. Especially for clogging caused by hair and other substances, it will be discharged.

Disadvantage: As the T-shaped magnetic floor drain contains magnets, if there is iron in the water, it will be adsorbed, making it difficult to close the floor drain. Over time, the magnetic force of the magnets will decrease.

Location: Suitable for the kitchen.

5. Hide the floor drain

Invisible floor drain: The surface cover can be turned over and the pre-switched floor tiles can be placed inside. In this way, the floor drain is basically invisible and the overall appearance is very beautiful. The standard size of this type of floor drain is 10*10. Compared with ordinary floor drains, its water collection area is relatively small. When the water flow in the shower area is relatively large, the drainage will be relatively slow. If possible, it is recommended to choose a longer size of invisible floor drain, such as 20 or 30CM long, which will collect water faster.

Installation

(1) Trim the reserved drainage holes to make them perfectly match the purchased floor drain.

(2) The water inlet of the multi-channel floor drain should be installed and used according to the actual situation.

The multi-channel floor drain is a floor drain that, in combination with a multi-functional joint, can (accommodate washbasins, bathtubs, washing machines and floor drainage). This structure can solve the problem that one sewer opening requires multiple drainage uses.
